GlenMartin, Inc. of Boonville, Mo., drastically expanded its operations both locally and abroad during 2006. This was due in part to increased demand for the company’s products as cellular phone technology continued to develop and expand throughout the developing world. This growth has led to an exponential growth in sales and employees.
The company engaged in two trade missions throughout eight countries in Central America, resulting in several multi-million dollar contracts, and a renewed commitment to export the company’s products abroad. In addition to Central America, the company is aggressively focusing its efforts on Asia, and Western Africa.
"For the most part, putting in land-line phones in the developing world is too cost-prohibitive," said Tatum Martin, Director of Operations for the company. “Instead of investing in land-based technology, our customers are focusing their efforts on installing cellular phone technology; which is great for our business.”
The international marketplace is very important to the company’s business plan.
“Most the United States is fully built-out with the infrastructure needed to facilitate existing and future technologies,” said Sandra Martin, President. “However, everything is just beginning just outside our borders. Since most countries lack the engineering and manufacturing abilities to produce these products, they look to us.”
Increased demand for the company’s products has led to an increase in the need for highly skilled employees.
“During the past year, we have nearly doubled our workforce; and we’ll probably double again by the end of this year,” said Lezlie McCarty, of Human Resources. “We are currently recruiting for well-qualified management, technical and professional positions. GlenMartin, Inc. was originally founded in 1918 by William Christopher Martin as W.C. Martin & Son Machine Shop & Welding, and was located just outside Boonville. GlenMartin has since become well-known internationally for their highly-technical engineering services and structural steel products. From their Boonville offices, the company operates three local manufacturing and warehouse facilities, and also maintains international locations throughout Central & South America, Africa, and Asia.
